Shona Bird

Founder, Manager and principal Choreographer of Step 2 Starz – SHONA BIRD has been in the Dance Industry now for over 18 years.

During her childhood Shona trained in Gymnastics, competing in the under 16’s Great Britain Regional squad at Spelthorne Gymnastics Club. At the age of 11 this then led to her passion for Dance and Shona joined Nichols School of Dance in London, training in various styles of Dance and taking several dance exams in Modern, Jazz, Street, Performance, Ballet and Contemporary. She has also taken classes at pineapple Dance Studios, taken workshops with professional dancers and attended various different Dance Teacher seminars.

In September 2009 Shona was thrilled to be offered the job as Principal Choreographer for West End Production Company “1640 productions” and commuted to London each weekend to work alongside directors, producers and other professionals in the industry. When Step 2 Starz opened In September 2010 she left the job as West End choreographer to focus her intentions/experience and knowledge on her own Dance Academy. Since opening the Academy nearly 7 years ago Shona has been able to give her own Dance students the opportunity to perform themselves in London’s West End and Step 2 starz made their fourth West End performance at “The Adelphi Theatre” in May this year!. Step 2 Starz has also previously taken 16 students to Disneyland Paris to compete in Dance championships, placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all entries! Students also took part in a pre-parade through the Disney Park. A highlight for Shona within the past year has to be moving into our very own premises and having our own Dance Studio Base. This has been a lifelong dream for Shona and in May last year this opportunity arose! Another proud achievement is also in February when 25 Students took their Acrobatic Arts exams, gaining 100% pass rate and 8 of them receiving the highest possible level of Superior Grade.
In March this year Shona also took 4 of her students to London for the weekend to attend Europe’s biggest Dance Event, MOVE IT. This was a fantastic weekend where students took part in various workshops with professionals in the industry, were able to watch live performances and gain future information for events, competitions, training and potential career paths.
As a dedicated and enthusiastic Dance Teacher Shona thrives on giving her students unique and exclusive opportunities and offering them different experiences which they can aspire from.

Shona is excited to be launching LITTLE STARZ Dance Academy for pre-chool aged children in January 2018. This will be alongside Rachel Martin who will also be running the classes.

“I believe that every child who has a passion and interest in Dance should be given the opportunity to fulfill their dreams whether it is as a career or just as an enjoyed hobby. I want to give those individuals the confidence, support and self-belief that they CAN succeed and become the starz of tomorrow.”
