About Us

STEP 2 STARZ  was set up and established in 2010 by Dancer & Choreographer SHONA BIRD.

The Academy’s aim is to provide fun dance classes to talented individuals to give them an opportunity at developing new skills, techniques, confidence and style all within a Dance related setting. We thrive on seeing our dancers develop and grow and try our best to offer them various opportunities and experiences that they can aspire too.

Step 2 Starz began with classes in Street Dance and Musical Theatre and later introduced ballet and contemporary classes to the timetable. We have now introduced ISTD Modern, A syllabus based class in which students can focus on style, technique, leaps, turns and professional dance development all the way up to vocational level. Students can take graded examinations which later accumulate into UCAS points which can be used towards university/college applications. These are fantastic classes which improve the dancer as a whole.  We also offer Acrobatics Arts classes which have proven to be an extremely popular class.  Students work on balance, limbering, contortion, strength, tumbling and partner work and can work their way through graded examinations.

Step 2 starz has previously taken part in 4 West End variety Shows performing at Her Majesty’s Theatre in 2012 and 2014, the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in March 2015 and most recently the Adelphi Theatre in May 2017.

The Academy have also held annual Inter Academy competitions, taken part in local charity events, festivals, and carnivals, have organised various Dance related trips to the Theatre, arranged a variety of Workshops with professionals, planned weekend Dance trips away and organised various dance events.

In February last year 16 students from the Academy went to Disneyland Paris for a weekend Dance event: The dancers performed fantastically in front of top industry judges and as result placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all competition entries!! The weekend ended with a finale dance parade in front of 8,000 people through the main Park in which students had the opportunity to work with the Disney Performing Arts management & production Team. This is something that Step 2 Starz hopes to run again in the near future.

There are also future plans to run other residential Dance trips, introduce new dance/performing arts block taster courses, arrange further dance/acrobatics exam sessions, improve our own CPD (Continuous professional development) as teachers, attending various other teacher training courses, and to continue the ongoing success of the Academy as a whole.
